Day two on the Cabot Trail with a northbound diversion to a place with a name near and dear to my heart. Meat Cove is a rural fishing community and it is the most northerly settlement in Nova Scotia and is located in the Sydney Victoria federal district. It is accessed north of Capstick via 8 km of rough gravel road. Not a drive for those afraid of heights and blind turns. I’m glad I did not attempt this drive on a motorcycle, the roads are not safe for two wheels. Despite the challenges of reaching Meat Cove, beautiful scenery rewards the intrepid driver.
After Meat Cove, we resumed our journey on the Cabot Trail heading north and then east. We stopped at the Groovy Goat Farm & Soap Company in Ingonish as Melissa wanted to buy a bunch of stuff made from goat’s milk. The shop also features a petting zoo, so while Melissa went shopping I took animal photos. The turkeys did not mind striking a pose or two.
We stopped at a few souvenir shops along the way. Of particular note was Tartans and Treasures in Dingwall which specializes in Scottish goods and keeps records of Scottish family names. It was here that Melissa learned of her Scottish heritage as her biological Dad’s last name is Armstrong, which is not English as we originally thought. If it’s Nae Scottish..it’s Crr~ap!
After a full day of incredible views, we stayed overnight in Sydney.
