Port Hawkesbury is a small waterside town located on the southwest end of Cape Breton Island. After a day in Halifax, we stayed at the Harbourview Motel in Port Hawkesbury as it is a convenient launch point to begin a tour of the Cabot Trail. Although the accomodations were quite modest, the location afforded us a great view of the harbour. However, we shared the parking lot with a family of wild cats. The animals are permanent residents and fed daily by the motel’s owner. They are an odd mixture of being tame and wild, manifesting the behaviours of domesticated cats, except nobody can pet them.
After dinner, I went for a walk near the water and photographed various phases of the sunset as seen below. The natural light went through quite a spectrum of colours as is often the case with sunsets in Atlantic Canada.
