For anyone familiar with Prince Edward Island, Thunder Cove Beach in Darnley is a well known destination made famous by its sandstone rock formations and a pristine sandy beach. Perhaps the best known feature is the Teapot Rock which I photographed last year. It was time to revisit this beautiful beach.
Since moving to PEI, I have taken several day trips on my motorcycle and shot quite a number of photos in mid-day sun. Whilst sunny day time weather is great for brisk fall riding, it’s not the best lighting for photography. I wanted to break out of that rut. So, last weekend I drove the Jeep to Thunder Cove beach with to arrive in time for sundown. The ocean faces east and the sun sets behind the cliffs, so the best lighting is on the shoreline. By the time I got there, high tide had rolled in and submerged the Teapot Rock and other sandstone formations. I made the best of it and on the way out, I was treated to a beautiful sunset on Thunder Cove Road.
Next time I go there, it will be at sunrise during low-tide so I can get better shots of the remarkable sandstone formations.
