Last weekend Melissa and took a day trip out to the Northpoint Lightstation in Tignish, PEI. It is the island’s northernmost point and in addition to the historic lighthouse there is a wind power station. On the rocky shores, people often make Inukshuks and if you come back in a few months, the old ones are gone and new ones take their place. For most Canadians, Inukshuks are well-known cultural symbols. They were originally constructed by the Inuit, historically they have been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for travel routes, fishing places, camps, hunting grounds, places of veneration, drift fences used in hunting, or to mark a food cache. A common site on sandbanks are large flocks of cormorants and they present all year round.
