This was our second vacation in Cuba this year. This time around I took an organized tour to see old Havana, mainly because the tour bus stopped at Ernest Hemingway’s home, Finca Vigía, located in San Francisco de Paula – a suburb located 24 km east of Havana.
Hemingway lived in the house from mid 1939 to 1960, renting it at first, and then buying it in December 1940 after he married his third wife Martha Gellhorn. Finca Vigía contains Hemingway’s personal library which consists of over 6000 books and there are marked gravestones in the backyard for his beloved dogs. Today the house serves as museum and is open to tourists all year round. It is not possible to enter the home, but one can get some good photos through the windows.
