Earlier in July, we had a sudden thunderstorm over Charlottetown, PEI. It has been decades since I tried to photograph lighting and that was back in the film days. My results were never good. So, I decided to give it another go with more up to date gear. This time around I used an Olympus Pen-F which has a great feature to capture unpredictable events: live composite mode. When the camera is in that mode, it continuously captures a sequence of images and stacks them on top of each other. So, you just press the shutter, it starts capturing a sequence of images and when lightning strikes, you press the shutter again to stop the process. Voila! Lightning is caught in real-time. Repeat as required and you will have a decent keeper rate.
