As a former denizen of the greater Toronto area, I was not accustomed to seeing clear dark skies. One had to travel far north to see the Milky Way – not so in Crapaud, PEI where the dusty cloud lanes of our galaxy are visible to the naked eye as are countless stars and all the constellations.
I took advantage of this opportunity to get these shots. They were taken with a Sony A7RII and a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 manual focus lens. Exposure was 24 seconds at ISO 3200. There is some mild star trailing, but I’m happy with the results for a quick and dirty setup. Even from our new home in Cornwall, PE, it’s possible to see the dust lanes of the Milky Way with the naked eye on a moonless night. Eventually I will use a motorized mount to get longer exposure times and better shots.
